Monuments into Ruins, Ruins into Monuments
Sunrise is hopeful and renewing. Midday bright and blinding. Nighttime dark and mysterious.
Sunset is altogether different.
It alone in just a few fleeting moments slows the the world in a molasses of light and color, allowing us to reflect upon the passing of time, our own mortality and in a wider sense, our collective mortality.
This show is about the things we as humans build and believe in: relationships, societies, structures, systems, alliances. The plans we make. The monuments that turn into ruins and the ruins we turn into monuments.
Through varied studio practices each artist combines disparate materials to find some new way forward: sand and oil paint, concrete and canvas, steel and fabric, technology, light, time and the ephemera of our collective history. It is in and through these results we can see the world — its promise, its decay and its renewal.
